Sony a7 III

The a7 III remains a practical entry point into full-frame mirrorless, but the gap between older and newer autofocus behavior is now a real buying factor.

The body still produces excellent files and battery life. The question is whether your subjects are calm enough that you do not need the stickier autofocus and screen improvements of newer bodies.

Reasons to buy used

  • Sensor output still holds up.
  • Lens ecosystem is deep and liquid.
  • Battery life remains excellent for the class.

Reasons to buy new

  • Autofocus has materially improved in newer generations.
  • Menu and screen ergonomics feel older fast.
  • Used savings shrink when low-shutter examples are scarce.

Common failure risks

  • Overpriced bodies with heavy shutter use.
  • Bundle listings that hide weak batteries.
  • Autofocus expectations mismatched to modern action shooting.
